Dog Birthday Cake!

For the Cake Base:

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed (Alternatively use grated carrots)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup Oats flour (Just grind some oats if you can't find the flour)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup favourite food topper (Chicken Liver Powder or Fish Powder)

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter (unsweetened, unsalted, no xylitol)
  • Optional: Treats for decoration

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a small round cake pan (4-6 inches in diameter) or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas or grated carrots, honey, coconut oil, flour, favourite food topper and egg. Mix until smooth. The food topper will add protein and flavour to the mixture.
  3. Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  4. Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Strain or hang yogurt overnight or atleast for a few hours.
  7. While the cake is cooling, prepare the frosting. In a small bowl, mix together the hung yogurt and peanut butter until smooth.
  8. Once the cake has cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top of the cake.
  9. If desired, decorate the cake with your dog's favourite treats, such as gluten free biscuits or jerkies.
  10. Place the decorated cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the frosting to set.
  11. Serve the birthday cake to your dog and watch them enjoy their special treat!
