Dog Friendly Pizza
Who says pizza night is just for humans? Treat your furry friend to a special canine-friendly version of this beloved dish. Made with wholesome ingredients that are safe for dogs, this pizza will have your pup wagging their tail with excitement. Here's how to make it:
Ingredients:
For the Crust:
- 1 cup coconut flour
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup favourite food topper (Liver powder, chicken powder, or Fish Powder)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cold pressed coconut oil
- 1 egg*
For Sauce:
- 1 cup carrots
- 1/2 cup beetroot
- 1 tablespoon cold pressed coconut oil
For the Toppings:
- 1/2 cup cooked and chopped chicken (or any meat)
- Few favourite treats (Jerkies, Meatballs, Amoosing go really well)
- 1/4 cup grated carrot
- 1/4 cup shredded low-fat cheese (such as mozzarella or cheddar)
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional, for freshness)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the coconut flour, rolled oats, food topper, water, olive oil, and egg to form a dough. If the dough is too dry, add a bit more water; if it's too sticky, add a bit more oats.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness. ONe trick is to try to flatten the dough between two sheets of parchment paper. Transfer the crust to the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until it's firm and lightly golden brown. Egg has quite some moisture so let it cook.
- Puree Carrots and Beetroot and mix with coconut oil.
- Spread over the lightly golden brown crust and return to oven for 3-4 minutes.
- While the crust is baking, prepare the toppings. Cook the chicken if it's not already cooked, then chop it into small pieces, grab your favourite treat packets.
- Once the crust is ready with sauce, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Leave the oven on.
- Spread the toppings evenly over the crust, followed by the grated carrot and zucchini.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the toppings, covering them evenly.
- Return the pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Sprinkle chopped parsley over the top for added freshness, if desired.
- Once the pizza has cooled to a safe temperature for your pup, slice it into smaller pieces and serve as a special treat.
- Watch your dog's tail wag with joy as they enjoy their very own pizza!
This dog-friendly pizza is a fun and nutritious way to spoil your furry friend. Feel free to customize the toppings based on your dog's preferences, but remember to avoid ingredients that are harmful to dogs, such as onions, and excessive salt. Enjoy your pizza night with your canine companion!
* If your dog is allergic to eggs, replace coconut flour with oat flour and add water instead of egg.
